He had endured a lengthy battle with leukemia and on September 8, the sickness defeated him. Cronin was first diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia in March of 2005, after suffering from constant headaches. Initial treatment was successful and in January of 2006 he went into remission. He even developed his own foundation called the Rich Cronin Hope Foundation with a goal of raising awareness of the disease as well as hoping to promote blood donation and encourage people to donate bone marrow.

However Icosahedral C60H60 with the same possible topological structure was already mentioned in 1965 and the existence of C60 was predicted by a scientist in Toyohashi University of Technology in 1970, Eiji Osawa. Osawa noticed that the structure of a corannulene molecule was a subset of a soccer-ball shape. His hypothesis and discovery was published in a Japanese magazine but never became known since it did not reach Europe and the Americas. Technically it was Eiji Osawa who discovered buckyball and it is in existence for 30 years.

Another scientist by the name of R. W.Henson from the Atomic Energy Research Establishment in the United States in 1970 also made observations and even made a model of the C60. However, since the evidences supporting this new form of carbon was very weak, his theory was not accepted. His results were never published but in 199 it was acknowledged as a fact.

A fullerene or buckyball is any molecule composed entirely of carbon, however this form can also take other shapes like ellipsoid, or tube. Spherical fullerenes are also called buckyballs, and cylindrical ones are called carbon nanotubes or buckytubes.

Other forms of fullerenes includes C70, C76 and C84. These molecules are found in nature and hidden in soot and formed by lightning discharges in the atmosphere. Fullerenes was also discovered in a family of minerals known as Shungites and just this year it was also discovered in space.

There are varying estimates as to the attendance of the said rally. The most conservative of which is from CBS which claims that around 78,000 to 96,000 people were in attendance during the Glen Beck’s rally.

The rally dubbed as “Restoring Honor” was a values and patriotism event aimed to restore honor in America and to raise funds for the non-profit Special Operations Warrior Foundation in honor of war veterans.

Glenn Beck and his supporters which includes former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and Alveda King were criticized for holding the rally at the Lincoln Memorial. The Lincoln Memorial was the site where the icon of the American African civil rights movement Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his historic “I Have a Dream” on its 47th anniversary.

Glenn Beck and rally organizers contested the numbers from CBS and said that the crowd was about 800,000 to a million. Other media outfits seems to agree as NBC News and MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough estimated 500,000 people while The New York Post reported “an overflow crowd of 300,000 people”.

Based on some photos we have of the Restoring Honor Rally we cannot have a good estimate of the crowd. We do however believed that what sparks the controversy is the fact that the rally is being dubbed as an anti-Obama sentiment rally.

The first version of the “Two Moons: Moon and Mars” appeared in the summer of 2003. At that time the news was indeed roughly accurate. On August 27, 2003, the oscillating orbits of Mars and Earth bring the two planets closer together in the last 50,000 years. AT tat time the moon and Mars became the brightest objects in the sky.

The claim however that Mars would appear “as large as the full moon to the naked eye” did not occur and its size was far exaggerated. In 2005, 2006 and 2007 the same news and text went wild again and became once again popular. Those who waited became frustrated since the news was actually false.

The inaccurate news flooded the internet under the header, “Two Moons on August 27″ in 2008, and as a slide show entitled “Mars Spectacular” in 2009.

Now, it is 2010 and the same news seems to catch the fancy of people around the world. The truth is there is nothing spectacular predicted for 2010 and there are no two moons on August 27, 2010.

The date of the start of Ramadan is traditionally determined by Moonsighting. Moonsighting is defined as seeing the crescent moon or Hilal is the sign for Muslims around the world that holy month of Ramadan has begun. This tradition of determining Ramadan has been accepted and used for centuries, and Ramadan 2010 is no different.

Since the Ramadan Hilal will not be visible on Tuesday, August 10 in the USA and Canada they can’t start Ramadan till the 12th. The position of the crescent moon on Tuesday will be between the sunset and the moonset, and its altitude on the western horizon is too low.

The Hilal or Moonsighting will be visible on the evening of August 11 almost everywhere except for northern regions of Canada. Thus, Ramadan in the USA will start on August 11 and follows Saudi/Egyptian date.

A Hilal will also not be visible in Makkah or Cairo on August 10.

“The traditional method, mentioned in the Qur’an and followed by the Prophet Muhammad, is to look to the sky and visibly sight the slight crescent moon (hilal) that marks the beginning of the month. If one sees the hilal at night, the next day is the first day of Ramadan and thus the first day of fasting. At the end of the month, when the community sights the hilal again, the Festival of Fast-Breaking (‘Eid al-Fitr) begins,” according to islam.about.com

This method however had been criticized since Moonsightings or Hilal should be done using the naked eye and sometimes the moon is not visible. Some scholars are suggesting to use precise moon charts to determine Hilal.

The author of moonsighting.com which advocates for the use of astronomical charts says, “Certainty, not actual sighting, is the real objective of the Shari’ah and that the Qur’an does not mandate physical sighting. A careful analysis shows that those hadiths that seemingly require sighting actually require certainty. The assertion that all Muslim scholars prohibit the use of astronomical calculations, both in affirming or negating the month of Ramadan, is not correct.”

There was however no admission of any sexual harassment that was made by Mark Hurd and HP. HP said that Hurd violated the company’s standards of operation by submitting inaccurate expense reports that covered his relationship with the said contractor. Hurd allegedly submitted receipts amounting to $1,000 to as high as $20,000 over a period of two years. The amounts covered expenses like meals and travel, expenses which are deemed to be personal.

The sexual harassment charges over Hurd was filed by a woman who was an official contractor of the HP-hosted “CEO forums” in North America. Hurd is married and has two children, the women’s attorney said that her client didn’t have an affair with Hurd.

Here is the full text of the letter interim HP CFO Cathie Lesjak sent to all employees. HP CFO Cathie Lesjak will act as the interim HP CEO until a new CEO can be appointed by the HP board of directors.

This is to advise you that Mark Hurd, Chairman and CEO of HP, has resigned from the company effective immediately. Mark’s resignation was submitted at the request of the company’s Board of Directors as a result of inappropriate behavior in which he engaged that violated HP’s Standards of Business Conduct and undermined his ability to continue to lead the company.

At the request of the Board I have agreed to serve as interim CEO until a new, permanent CEO is hired. During this time I also will continue to perform my duties as CFO. The Board has formed a committee to undertake a search for a new CEO, and candidates from inside the company as well as outside the company will be considered. I have informed the Board, however, that I do not wish to be considered for the role of permanent CEO, and I have removed myself from being a candidate for that position.

While this news is unexpected, HP remains in an exceptionally strong position both financially and in the marketplace. It is essential, however, that we remain focused and continue to achieve – if not exceed – our operational and financial objectives.

Because there is likely to be considerable media coverage of this announcement during the next few days, I wanted to be the first to share the facts with you.

Mark’s resignation followed an internal investigation into a claim of sexual harassment asserted against Mark and HP by a woman who is former contractor to HP. The investigation was conducted by outside counsel in conjunction with HP’s General Counsel’s office and was overseen by the Board. Based on the investigation it was determined that the former contractor’s claim of sexual harassment was not supported by the facts.

The investigation did reveal, however, that Mark had engaged in other inappropriate conduct. Specifically, based on the facts that were gathered it was found that Mark had failed to disclose a close personal relationship he had with the contractor that constituted a conflict of interest, failed to maintain accurate expense reports, and misused company assets. Each of these constituted a violation of HP’s Standards of Business Conduct, and together they demonstrated a profound lack of judgment that significantly undermined Mark’s credibility and his ability to effectively lead HP.

As we regularly remind all employees, each of us is expected to adhere strictly to the Standards of Business Conduct in all of our business dealings and relationships. This expectation applies with even greater force to HP’s CEO and other senior executives who, given their positions, must set the highest standard for professional and personal conduct. The investigation that was conducted revealed that Mark had failed to meet this standard.

We recognize that this change in leadership is unexpected news. We also know that HP’s success in recent years is due to the collective efforts and hard work of more than 300,000 talented employees who have formulated far-reaching strategies and achieved our objectives better than anyone else in the industry.

NASA in fact published an article entitled “Space Quake Rumble Near Earth,” which shows striking similarities of an earthquake and a magnetic quake. This type of quake will be the one affecting our magnetically sensitive equipment and gadgets.
