Choosing the right investment upon reaching retirement age is very essential. At this point of time, employment ends and should have saved that much to sustain the demanding life that you used to have. Not unless you’ve become a business mogul an owns a large profit generating company then retiring isn’t an issue for you. But for those who have been employed for the rest of their adult years, they would most likely be depending on their bank savings and have it generate income until they die.

Social entrepreneur Chris Bech and his Filipina wife Theresa has been helping retirees manage their retirement funds by engaging them to organic farming. They are real estate business couple and organic farming isn’t just the only option that they can offer you. Some of their expat friends who chose to settle in the Philippines for good chose organic farming while others with larger amount of savings chose to build beach resorts.

Organic farming is not just a profitable business but a way of living healthy eventually. You will be exposed to natural farming and most likely you would be eating your own produce. Because you won’t be using commercial fertilizers, your expenses would be lessen aside from the fact that your organic products can be sold at a higher price in the market. Not only that, organic farming require more manpower and in that way you can provide more jobs to the locals in the area.

This is just one of the numerous great investments that you can have when you retire. It would be better if you stay away from the busy cities and settle in a quite and peaceful farmland.

Technology and electronics brand and company Hewlett-Packard Co announced today in New York that 57-year old Leo Apotheker would be its new chief executive officer (HP CEO) and president.

Apotheker is a graduate of International Relations and Economics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He is fluent in five languages: Dutch, English, French, German, and Hebrew.

Apotheker, born September 18, 1953 in Aachen, Germany, used to be co-chief executive of German software company SAP with Henning Kagermann back in April 2008. That is actually an achievement for himself because he’s the first executive unable to write software code promoted to SAP’s top spot.

Armed with his background is in sales, management and strategy, Apotheker led SAP to the $7.5 billion acquisition of business intelligence maker Business Objects, the first major acquisition of SAP.

This move did not sit well on some analysts who said that ever since he took the chair at SAP, the company lacked a clear, cohesive strategy for growth. And in February 2010, Apotheker suddenly stepped down as SAP’s CEO amid investor dissatisfaction.

Now, he is the top man in HP. And many are wondering what plans Apotheker has for the global household electronic brand.

Happy 12th Birthday Google! – The Google Doodle today was all about the 12th year anniversary of Google. September was a very memorable month for Google. The company was founded September 4, 1998 and then the Google.com domain was registered on September 15, 1997. If the domain will be the basis Google.com is now 13 years old.

The idea of Google came from a research project by Larry Page and Sergey Brin based on finding a better system that analyzed the relationships between websites. This technology was called PageRank, where a website’s relevance was determined by the number of pages, and the importance of those pages, that linked back to the original site.

Way back during those days a small search engine was already exploring such an idea, Rankdex. The original name of the project was not Google but “BackRub”, since the search engine will check backlinks. The term Google came from a misspelling of the word “googol”, the number one followed by one hundred zeros.

Google.com was not originally Google.com because during its early days it was hosted under the website of the Standford University, thus its url is google.stanford.edu.

Today, Google has become the number one search engine in the world eclipsing Yahoo! by many miles. Google had also ventured into other things like its own browser, the Google Chrome and also into Operating Sytem and mobile phone technology.

Truly innovation has paved its way. Happy 12th birthday Google!

Babies who have eaten the contaminated formula affected by the Similac recall may experience symptoms including stomach ache or refusal to eat.

The Similac recall includes certain lots of Similac powder product lines offered in plastic containers and Similac powder product lines offered in sizes such as 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce and 12.9-ounce cans. For the complete list of Similac recall lot numbers, you can download the 38-page PDF file Here.

Tier 5 Extension, A Major Topic on Labor Day Weekend 2010 – It will be Labor Day Weekend 2010 on September 6 in the United States and one of the major topic to be discussed is the Tier 5 Extension status and how 99ers would be able to continue campaigning for the passage of the bill.

Senator Harry Reid’s office had already confirmed that the American Wants to Work Act which contains the Tier 5 Extension Bill is not among the priority bills when Senate resumes, September 13. In fact if you look at it Tier 5 Extension and American Wants to Work Act is nowhere in the Senate agenda.

Unemployment is also seen as one of the major topics for Labor Day Weekend 2010. The current United States average unemployment rate is above 9% and there are fears that it might even go up.

This scenario is perhaps one of the major reason why President Barack Obama finally decided to end combat mission of American troops in Iraq and cut military budget oversees.

“Our most urgent task is to restore our economy, and put the millions of Americans who have lost their jobs back to work,” said Obama on his Iraq Speech last August 31.

Though Labor Day Weekend 2010 is a day off for laborers, it would be another usual day and a day to call for justice for unemployed Americans who continue to suffer under a bad economy.

Labor Day is observed annually in the United States during the first Monday of September. It celebrates the economic and social achievements of laborers It represents an annual national tribute to the contributions workers made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

Tier 5 Extension Bill and American Wants to Work Act: It’s Future and Importance – The US Congress and the US Senate is still sitting and sleeping on the American Wants to Work Act which incorporates a Tier 5 Extension for the benefit of 99ers. The need for a Tier 5 of benefits had been a long standing issue and many are clamoring for its approval however, Republicans and conservatives are opposing the bill because they say it is costly.

American Wants to Work Act or Senate Bill 3706 principally authored by Sen. Stabenow of Michigan contains important provisions which will help 99ers and the unemployed. Among the provisions are: (1) Creating an additional tier of benefits for those who have exhausted their unemployment insurance; (2) Extending the successful HIRE Act payroll tax exemption through the end of 2011; and (3) Doubling the general business tax credit to encourage businesses to hire the hardest hit Americans.

This provision should have been included in the first Employment Bill passed by the US Senate and Congress last month but in order to advance the bill and do away with major opposition from even some Democrat stalwarts the provision was removed.

Republicans and conservatives are calling the bill bad spending because it will create more deficit however they are in favor of the rescue package for Wall Street and other large companies. The 99ers and average American families who needs this bill battle a daily situation of life and death finding a means of living and source of daily needs for their family.

The Republicans also supported the war in Iraq and Afghanistan which cost more then $3 Billion in American money. Why would they oppose something that would help people in the United States? The war against unemployment and poverty at home is the more important battle than a war overseas which in fact cannot be won by the United States.

Perhaps, the 99ers and those who had suffered so much from unemployment can show their sentiments during the November mid-term elections. The chances of Republican and other conservatives getting the votes from unemployed and 99ers are very slim and for sure this will be a big election issue. As the call of 99ers for a Tier 5 Extension Bill continue to fall on deaf ears, their family are suffering as well.

The chances of the Tier 5 Extension Bill and American Wants to Work Act being a law this year is sadly very slim. With the mid-term elections closing in for sure no one will risk to stand on highly contested issues. For those who are employed and are rich they see the Tier 5 Extension Bill as lavish and unnecessary but for 99ers and the unemployed it is a means of getting back on ones feet.

As a simple advise those unemployed who are still covered by unemployment benefits should really exert more effort to look for a job before their employment benefits run out. Others should not see the benefits as a source of income but rather as a tool to get back on a job.

Continue to send letters to your Congress Representative and Senators and show them the need for the Tier 5 Unemployment Extension. Also, join rallies and support groups such as Help the 99ers and Unemployed_Friends.

Also, share us your views, share these article to friends and even circulate it, or you can share to us the name of a politician which you think betrays the workers and does not deserve reelection.

Voice your opinion because your voice and view is powerful.

New Oil Rig Explosion at Gulf of Mexico Questions Safety of Offshore Platforms – The new explosion of an oil rig platform at the Gulf of Mexico, Thursday bring into question the existing safety standards of offshore oil platforms throughout the United States.

This is the second explosion in the Gulf of Mexico after the long battle with the BP Oil leak since April. More then 206 million gallons of oil spilled over the Gulf of Mexico. This time however the explosion did not cause any oil leak and oil sheen.

The fire occurred on an oil platform owned by Houston-based Mariner Energy. The platform was named the Vermillion Oil Rig 380, was in 2,500 feet of water. Patrick Cassidy of Mariner Energy said that there was no explosion in the platform but a fire occurred.

The crew of the oil rig was seen floating in the water holding hand in hand and wearing life vests. The US coast guard rescued the crew immediately.

Cassidy in a statement also said that the oil platform is still intact and only a portion of it was affected. According to reports the fire began in 100 barrels of light oil condensate.

The second explosion at the Gulf of Mexico in just a year prompted environmental groups and some lawmakers to raise concern on the dangers of offshore drilling. They had urged the Obama administration to extend a temporary ban on deepwater drilling to shallow water, where this platform was located.

Rep. Frank Pallone (D-New Jersey) shows great concern on the incident, “How many accidents are needed and how much environmental and economic damage must we suffer before we act to contain and control the source of the danger: offshore drilling?”

Mike Gravitz, oceans advocate for Environment America, said President Barack Obama “should need no further wake-up call to permanently ban new drilling.”

Meanwhile, BP Oil is expected to begin removing the cap and failed blowout prevented from the Deepwater Horizon ruptured well. This is the next step towards the completion of a relief well that would seal the leak permanently.
