Prop 19 Results: Did Prop 19 Pass in California? – A landmark legislation that would allow the cultivation, use and sale of marijuana had been up in the ballot in California. The proposal is dubbed as the California Proposition 19 or California Prop 19.

Proposition 19 would legalize possession of up to an ounce of marijuana and use of it in non-public places for those ages 21 and over. They would also be allowed to grow it in private plots. Local governments would also be permitted to allow issuance of permits for commercial pot cultivation and sales.

California Prop 19 is supported by those who argues that the measure will be a source of tax revenue and a sensible experiment for reducing marijuana-related arrests and crime.

Today, the Prop 19 results in California came in and we have the resounding answer of the voters. Did Prop 19 pass in California?

The answer is NO. The voters in California rejected Prop 19 with a vote of 55% against it and 45% in favor of it. Proponents of Prop 19 however are not conceding yet and they say that they will try again in 2012.

It seems that this elections those who argued that the free consumption of marijuana would increases the risk of accidents, have consequences in the workplace and create a legal platform for drug traffickers in California had triumphed.

Nicky Diaz Drops A-Bomb on Meg Withman – Former maid of California GOP gobernatorial candidate Meg Whitman accuses her of discharging her over wrong reasons and treating her improperly. Nicky Diaz was discharged after Meg Whitman decided to run for Governor and made strong stand on immigration issues.

Diaz however alleged that Meg Whitman already knew that she was an illegal immigrant long before the candidate decided to run. “Until she decided to run for governor in 2009, it appears Mrs. Whitman had no problem or concern about employing an undocumented worker,” says Diaz attorney, Attorney Gloria Allfred.

The accusation also includes maltreatment and cheap salary given to Diaz. “I don’t feel like someone should be treated this way. She treat me as if I was not a human being. I am doing this because I know there are a lot of Megs out there who are mistreating Nickys who work so hard for them,” Diaz told reporters.

MEanwhile, the GOP candidate, Meg Whitman is denying the allegations. She said that Nicky was the one who approached her and inform her of her status hoping a help from her. However, she said that she refused to help her and instead informed her that they have to let her go.

The truth about this issue is still blurred but if there is one thing for sure, we are witnessing a political show here. The opponents of Meg Whitman are trying to break the candidates stand on immigration issue.

Do you think this issue will affect Meg Whitman’s candidacy? Share us your views.

US Senate Repeals Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Policy – Lady Gaga’s meat dress may have paid the price and a victory as the US senate repealed the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Policy” with a vote of 56-43.

The Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Policy is a policy which restricts the United States military from efforts to discover or reveal closeted gay, lesbian, and bisexual service members or applicants, while barring those who are openly gay, lesbian, or bisexual from military service.

Democrats Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor from Arkansas voted ‘no’, they are not however alone as even Senator Harry Reid also voted ‘no’. Reid’s vote was a precaution in case the total will favor the Republicans and her vote will revived the voting later.

John McCain, a military service veteran said, “We do not go out and seek. Regulations are, we do not go out and seek to find out if someone’s sexual orientation.”

Reporters flocked to McCain after the conclusion of the vote and the repeal. “I’ve seen it in action. I’ve seen it in action. I have sons in the military, I know the military very well. So they’re not telling you the truth,” says McCain.

President Noynoy Aquino Answers Media Panel Questions on Manila Hostage Crisis – Philippine President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III called for a media panel, Thursday, September 9 for the specific purpose of clearing all issues concerning the Manila Bus hostage crisis last August 23 at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, Philippines.

The media panel was composed of the top three televisions stations, GMA 7, TV 5 and ABS-CBN. The representatives from the three media groups asked no-holds-barred questions about the incident which claim the lives of 10 Hongkong nationals. Paulo Bediones, Mel Tiangco and Ted Failon grilled PNoy for one and a half hours.

President Aquino said that he was in complete monitoring of the whole situation on August 23 and maintained close contacts to those handling the crisis. He said that he did not went to the incident site because it might complicate the situation and the hostage taker, Rolando Mendoza might ask for more conditions and request.

PNoy also said that he was confident with those handling the situation because he believes that they had been trained well to handle such a situation. If they are not trained, he said that it would be impossible for them to reach such a high rank in the police.

As the hostage crisis progressed and the assault of the bus began in the evening, Aquino said that he was totally disappointed with what he saw. He reiterated that such an operation should be past and free of any error but that is not what happened during that day. After he saw that Aquino said that he immediately look for those in charge and found them at the Emerald.

“This incident will not define this administration. In the end, my administration will be judged on what we have accomplished and what we will accomplish in the coming years: a reduction in poverty and the restoration of a government that is honest in its efforts to build a better nation,” Aquino reiterated.

He also said that there is no faction in his cabinet and depends his management style saying that he is a president that wants everybody to have a voice and a share in the decision making. He told everyone that he is not a person who always likes to be at the center of news and attention and always being the hero.

“Our government is now focused on taking the necessary steps to prevent this tragedy from ever happening again,” he said.

When asked why no officer had been fired or dismissed yet, Aquino said that he is waiting for the findings of the Incident Investigation and Review Committee (IIRC) headed by Justice Secretary Leila de Lima before deciding which officials need to be removed from office for their failings during the hostage crisis.

The report and findings of the IIRC will also be part of the documents that will be brought to Hongkong by the high level delegation to be headed by Vice President Jejomar Binay. They will also be bringing a personal letter from President Aquino.

Tier 5 Extension, A Major Topic on Labor Day Weekend 2010 – It will be Labor Day Weekend 2010 on September 6 in the United States and one of the major topic to be discussed is the Tier 5 Extension status and how 99ers would be able to continue campaigning for the passage of the bill.

Senator Harry Reid’s office had already confirmed that the American Wants to Work Act which contains the Tier 5 Extension Bill is not among the priority bills when Senate resumes, September 13. In fact if you look at it Tier 5 Extension and American Wants to Work Act is nowhere in the Senate agenda.

Unemployment is also seen as one of the major topics for Labor Day Weekend 2010. The current United States average unemployment rate is above 9% and there are fears that it might even go up.

This scenario is perhaps one of the major reason why President Barack Obama finally decided to end combat mission of American troops in Iraq and cut military budget oversees.

“Our most urgent task is to restore our economy, and put the millions of Americans who have lost their jobs back to work,” said Obama on his Iraq Speech last August 31.

Though Labor Day Weekend 2010 is a day off for laborers, it would be another usual day and a day to call for justice for unemployed Americans who continue to suffer under a bad economy.

Labor Day is observed annually in the United States during the first Monday of September. It celebrates the economic and social achievements of laborers It represents an annual national tribute to the contributions workers made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

Tier 5 Extension Bill and American Wants to Work Act: It’s Future and Importance – The US Congress and the US Senate is still sitting and sleeping on the American Wants to Work Act which incorporates a Tier 5 Extension for the benefit of 99ers. The need for a Tier 5 of benefits had been a long standing issue and many are clamoring for its approval however, Republicans and conservatives are opposing the bill because they say it is costly.

American Wants to Work Act or Senate Bill 3706 principally authored by Sen. Stabenow of Michigan contains important provisions which will help 99ers and the unemployed. Among the provisions are: (1) Creating an additional tier of benefits for those who have exhausted their unemployment insurance; (2) Extending the successful HIRE Act payroll tax exemption through the end of 2011; and (3) Doubling the general business tax credit to encourage businesses to hire the hardest hit Americans.

This provision should have been included in the first Employment Bill passed by the US Senate and Congress last month but in order to advance the bill and do away with major opposition from even some Democrat stalwarts the provision was removed.

Republicans and conservatives are calling the bill bad spending because it will create more deficit however they are in favor of the rescue package for Wall Street and other large companies. The 99ers and average American families who needs this bill battle a daily situation of life and death finding a means of living and source of daily needs for their family.

The Republicans also supported the war in Iraq and Afghanistan which cost more then $3 Billion in American money. Why would they oppose something that would help people in the United States? The war against unemployment and poverty at home is the more important battle than a war overseas which in fact cannot be won by the United States.

Perhaps, the 99ers and those who had suffered so much from unemployment can show their sentiments during the November mid-term elections. The chances of Republican and other conservatives getting the votes from unemployed and 99ers are very slim and for sure this will be a big election issue. As the call of 99ers for a Tier 5 Extension Bill continue to fall on deaf ears, their family are suffering as well.

The chances of the Tier 5 Extension Bill and American Wants to Work Act being a law this year is sadly very slim. With the mid-term elections closing in for sure no one will risk to stand on highly contested issues. For those who are employed and are rich they see the Tier 5 Extension Bill as lavish and unnecessary but for 99ers and the unemployed it is a means of getting back on ones feet.

As a simple advise those unemployed who are still covered by unemployment benefits should really exert more effort to look for a job before their employment benefits run out. Others should not see the benefits as a source of income but rather as a tool to get back on a job.

Continue to send letters to your Congress Representative and Senators and show them the need for the Tier 5 Unemployment Extension. Also, join rallies and support groups such as Help the 99ers and Unemployed_Friends.

Also, share us your views, share these article to friends and even circulate it, or you can share to us the name of a politician which you think betrays the workers and does not deserve reelection.

Voice your opinion because your voice and view is powerful.

The debate was hotly contested and so will be the senate seat come the November mid-term elections.

The debate which fitted U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-California) against her Republican opponent, Carly Fiorina was seen live via KGTV Channel 10 News 7:00pm September 1. Both of these candidates call for job creation but offer conflicting strategies on how to boost the economy.

Fiorina supports tax cuts for corporations to create new jobs, while Boxer concentrates on tax incentives for small businesses as well as stimulus inevestments in infrastructure and sustainable industries to put Americans back to work.

Here are parts of the Senate Candidates Face Off: Boxer, Fiorina Debate vIDEO:

Glenn Beck Restoring Honor Rally Attendance: What Do You Think? – The rally which gathered Americans from all walks of life in Washington DC and led by conservative radio and television host and political commentator, Glenn Beck had been controversial recently. The controversy? “How many attended the Glenn Beck Restoring Honor Rally?”

There are varying estimates as to the attendance of the said rally. The most conservative of which is from CBS which claims that around 78,000 to 96,000 people were in attendance during the Glen Beck’s rally.

The rally dubbed as “Restoring Honor” was a values and patriotism event aimed to restore honor in America and to raise funds for the non-profit Special Operations Warrior Foundation in honor of war veterans.

Glenn Beck and his supporters which includes former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and Alveda King were criticized for holding the rally at the Lincoln Memorial. The Lincoln Memorial was the site where the icon of the American African civil rights movement Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his historic “I Have a Dream” on its 47th anniversary.

Glenn Beck and rally organizers contested the numbers from CBS and said that the crowd was about 800,000 to a million. Other media outfits seems to agree as NBC News and MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough estimated 500,000 people while The New York Post reported “an overflow crowd of 300,000 people”.

Based on some photos we have of the Restoring Honor Rally we cannot have a good estimate of the crowd. We do however believed that what sparks the controversy is the fact that the rally is being dubbed as an anti-Obama sentiment rally.

What do you think of the Glenn Beck Restoring Honor Rally? How many did attended it? Do you think they should not have made the rally at the Lincoln Memorial? Share us your thoughts and comments.

Obama’s Iraq Address: A Welcome Development – Many Americans welcomes the Presidential Address dubbed as the historical Obama Speech of August 31. The speech was historical because it announces the end of combat missions In Iraq, draws out a timeline in Afghanistan and sets forth the priority of developing the economy at home and the stability of the United States.

President Barack Obama gives a retrospect to how the war was started and how it was announced in the very same oval office that he is sitting. He also referred to former President George W. Bush as a patriot, a referral which seems to be one of the lightest and favorable so far.

“It’s well known that he and I disagreed about the war from its outset. Yet no one can doubt President Bush’s support for our troops, or his love of country and commitment to our security,” Obama said. “As I’ve said, there were patriots who supported this war, and patriots who opposed it. And all of us are united in appreciation for our servicemen and women, and our hopes for Iraqis’ future.”

President Obama continued on how the war had changed and how it affected the lives of Americans at home.

“Much has changed since that night,” President Obama said. “A war to disarm a state became a fight against an insurgency. Terrorism and sectarian warfare threatened to tear Iraq apart. Thousands of Americans gave their lives; tens of thousands have been wounded. Our relations abroad were strained. Our unity at home was tested.”

In the long speech that follows, Obama did not declare victory in Iraq instead e said that the Iraqi’s should be responsible for their own government and their future. Obama also referred to this statement when he stated the government’s policy in Afghanistan.

Obama assured many that the surge in Afghanistan will be temporary, “As with the surge in Iraq, these forces will be in place for a limited time to provide space for the Afghans to build their capacity and secure their own future. But, as was the case in Iraq, we can’t do for Afghans what they must ultimately do for themselves. ”

In the end President Barack Obama said that the government must take care of its own people and must overcome the challenges encountered at home. He said that too much had already been done overseas that the government at some point forgot that it should also maintain its own stability and security.

Most Americans welcome the new development presented in Obama’s speech as a brand new start towards peace and a greater focus on their own life in the United States. Overseas, foreign governments welcome the speech as a show of a more participatory and welcoming US government.

Other though, said that there is no difference in what Obama said. Gae Gordon a bartender at Galloping Gertie said, “I want to see something else in the Middle East, but I doubt it ever will. They (the soldiers) are going to get deployed right away over to Afghanistan. No difference.”
