Philippines started the celebration as they welcome baby girl Danica May Camacho. Although her official birth time was two minutes advance before October 31st, her doctors of the Jose Fabella Memoril Hospital said that it was close enough to count for a Monday birthday. Baby Danica is the second child of Florante Camacho and Camille Galura. Her father is a struggling driver and their family is just one of the thousands of average earning families of the country.

Now that 2010 is finally over, studies are everywhere and evaluations are being conducted if the country was able to move on. Most of the studies conducted are about the the unemployment. It was found out that the unemployment rate went down to 9.7% last December. This is the lowest for four years. It may indicate that the more jobs were given or the identified unemployed of the country lowered down because they reached their maximum weeks for the unemployment benefits. Some were even requesting for unemployment extension but experts are saying that it will just encourage laziness.

On the other hand, it was also found out that among the unemployed in the country, most of them are teenagers and blacks or the African American. “Workers are on a jobs ladder. Where you are on that ladder depends on your education, your race, your gender,” said William Rodgers, professor of public policy and chief economist at the Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers University. Teenagers were noted to have the lowest skill and education levels.

“Study after study shows that the white college graduate is more likely to get the job, even if they have exactly the same resume [as the black applicant],” said Rob Fairlie, professor of economics at the University of California in Santa Cruz and a research affiliate at the National Poverty Center. “The only difference is the race.”

Since it is very difficult to wipe out, racial discrimination still exists affecting even in getting a job.

Personally, I do not get the idea of the campaign and how it would help raise breast cancer awareness. However, if we look at the trend it created on Google and the viral effect it has on Facebook people began asking about what it it. When people become curious and ask for what this thing is about, “I like it on the floor” and “I like it on Facebook” become meaningful sentences.

People’s attention need to be caught before you can really talk to them about breast cancer specially if you are talking to males. These words and sentences catches the attention on everyone and I think that as an attention grabber it does work.

The difference this year is that Danvers will offer a special tribute to Karen Martin, a Danvers resident who frequented his restaurant. Martin was one of the victims of the 9/11 attacks. was a 40-year-old lead flight attendant on American Airlines Flight 11 on the day of the tragedy.

“Karen was an exceptional girl,” her aunt Joan Greener said. “Her loss has been really hard for us.” Greener and her husband bill will be delivering a speech as part of the 9/11 memorial. The memorial at Danvers started 2002 which started through a memorial at Andrinopoulos’ house.

“The first year, it was about 10 people,” Andrinopoulos said. To date, the annual 9/11 memorial at his restaurant grew to a couple hundred of people. Along with the Greeners, Andrinopoulos expects U.S. Representative John Tierney, Essex County Sheriff Frank G. Cousins, State Representative Theodore C. Speliotis, and Daniel Bennett, who is running against Spelotis, among other speakers.
