Happy 125th Birthday Josef Frank – Surprised to see an odd Google Doodle? Well that is because today, Google celebrates the 125th birthday of Josef Frank. Frank was an Austrian/Swedish architect of Jewish Ancestry. He had been famous for his numerous design items which had won him the Grand Austrian State Prize for architecture.

Josef Frank had produced more than 200 patterns between 1909 and 1950. His designs was beyond the ordinary and defies contemporary sensibilities by offering a contrast to the linear, grid-like restrictions that defined modernism.

Once he is asked about his designs, Frank said, “Every human needs a certain degree of sentimentality to feel free,” He then continues “Away with the universal styles, away with the equalization of industry and art.”

Josef Frank was born on July 15, 1885 in Baden bei Wien and died as a legendary architect in Stockholm on January 8, 1967.
