Keith Jesperson Daughter on 20/20 Brings Back Happy Face Killer Memories – It was a brutal killing that involved the famous smiley face. Some have already forgotten it but when Melissa Jefferson Moore appeared on a talk show on ABC, it brought back the old horror and memories.

Keith Jesperson killed a total of 8 people. His name “Happy Face Killer” was given to him for the smiley face he drew on the many letters he sent to the media and prosecutors. His first smiley face was drawn on the wall of the toilet, where he had left an anonymous confession to the murder Taunja Bennett.

Melissa recalls how he had seen her father torture some animals specifically kittens in their backyard. His father hung the kittens on the clothes line and then later on her father killed all of them one by one.

This incident became the start of the misunderstanding between her father and his mother and later on her mother decided to divorce Keith Jesperson. They then lived on a residence three hundred kilometers away from him.

Keith Jesperson was first arrested in 1995 for the murder of his girlfriend, Julie Ann Winningham although his first known victim is Taunja Bennett on January 23, 1990.

In total Keith Jesperson, “The Happy Face Killer” killed a total of 8 people in Nebraska, California, Florida, Washington, Oregon and Wyoming.

He is now serving three consecutive life imprisonment in a prison in Oregon in Salem. In September 2009 he was convicted of murder in Riverside, Calif., and was extradited to California from Oregon to face charges in December.
