Miesha Tate Wins Strikeforce – Miesha Tate was crowned the first ever Women’s Welterweight Champion in the Strikeforce Challengers Tournamenent. She defeated all of her three opponents to grab the newest Strikeforce Title.

Miesha “Takedown” Tate holds a record of 11-2 and her win in the four-woman tournament for 135-pounders at the Strikeforce Challengers 10 show Friday in Phoenix add prestige to her already colorful career.

This win by Miesha Tate earns her a shot at the winner of a bout later this year. The battle will be between champion Sarah Kaufman and Marloes Coenen.

Miesha Tate and Sarah Kaufman previously battled it off already and in that battle Tate was the loser. The fight happened in May 2009 where both fighters made their Strikeforce debut.

“My submission defense is definitely one of my strong points,” Tate said. “I felt really confident coming out against her. She was the one I wanted to fight the most out of the tournament. … Beating her was definitely monumental in my career.”

Meanwhile Expendables cast and UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture’s son, Ryan Couture made his debut at Strikeforce on the same day. Couture won with a triangle choke submission of Lucas Stark (2-5) just 1:15 off the first round.
