Northern Lights and Solar Flare 2010 More Than a how of Lights – The sparkling light seen in the United States and other parts of the world whic we call as Aurora Borealis is more than just a show of lights. These northern lights are effects of an ongoing sun storm and solar flare eruptions in the sun.

The Solar Flare 2010 is however unique since this is just the beginning of an extreme solar events that are predicted to affect the Earth. Predicted effects includes disruption of communication as well as other electronic and electricity-run equipment.

“The problem is solar storms—figuring out how to predict them and stay safe from their effects,” says ILWS Chairperson Lika Guhathakurta of NASA headquarters. “We need to make progress on this before the next solar maximum arrives around 2013.”

Guhathakurta said this during his message at the International Living with a Star (ILWS) meeting in Bremen, Germany were more than 25 of the world’s most technologically-advanced nations have gathered to deal with an ever increasing activity in the surface of the sun.

“The Earth and sun are interconnected. We cannot study them separately anymore,” says Guhathakurta.

NASA forecasts that the solar events will peak around 2013 and is feared to affect our daily life. NASA says that it would affect communications to weather forecasting to financial services—depend on satellites and high-tech electronics.

NASA in fact published an article entitled “Space Quake Rumble Near Earth,” which shows striking similarities of an earthquake and a magnetic quake. This type of quake will be the one affecting our magnetically sensitive equipment and gadgets.
