South Korea defeated Greece in their first match at World Cup 2010, 2-0. South Korea was powered up and is aiming for a great World Cup finishing this year. It was Lee Jung-soo and Park Ji-sung who scored the 2 goals for South Korea to give the win. Greece seemed to be playing out of shape during the first Group B match for World Cup 2010.
South Korea coach Huh Jung-moo said that he expects more from his team and it will not be enough to get a win if this will be the level they perform. Despite said win, he sayd they could have played better.
This is South Korea’s seventh consecutive World Cup and the best place they got was in their 2002 inclusion on the World Cup semifinals competing against Japan. Meanwhile, this was only the second appearance of Greek, their last time was way back 1994.
Teams need to undergo various qualifying matches before being allowed to play for the FIFA World Cup. Only those who will qualify for their respective area or regional football federation matches can compete in the World Cup.
The first minutes of the game looks like it was a game to be won by Greece as the South Korean’s were missing their tempo. That is when suddenly the Greeks realized that is it them that would eventually be caught off guard.
“We conceded that really quick goal,” Alexandros Tziolis said. “It took us by surprise and threw us off our game.”
The coach of Greece admitted that it was not their game. Greece will be facing Nigeria on June 17 2010 at Free State Stadium, Bloemfontein, 4:00pm while South Korea’s next game will be against Argentina at Soccer City, Johannesburg, 1:30pm.
