Yahoo! Japan and Google Deal Irks Microsoft – A deal between rivals was made possible in Japan by Yahoo! Japan and Google, a deal which Microsoft did not like a bit. Microsoft who owns just 3 percent of the search engine share in Japan plans to argue the partnership before Japan’s Fair Trade Commission.

Microsoft says the partnership will solidify 94 percent of the total search engine share in Japan and will greatly marginalize Microsoft run MSN.

Yahoo! Japan will switch to Google’s search engine this year and also deploy Google’s online advertising and distributing system. Yahoo! Japan meanwhile gets to retain its current user interface plus Google data on online shopping or auction trends.

Yahoo! Japan controls 57 percent of the search market and Google has 37 percent share. Microsoft has a share of about 3 percent.
